Call for contributions for the UNICA Scholarly Communication webinar "Upskilling librarians to meet new library roles" (October)

The UNICA Scholarly Communication Working Group will organize a series of webinars as from October 2020.

The first webinar “Upskilling librarians to meet new library roles” will take place in October (precise date tbc) and will be organized by the Université libre de Bruxelles. 

 

Concept note

Over the past few years, libraries have been developing new services and tools to support teaching, learning and research at their university. For example, Fablabs, support for research data management, open access and copyright issues, open science, journal and book publishing, digitization of collections, repositories, etc. Providing these new services requires librarians to develop new skills and competencies. How are libraries facing this challenge? What types of continuous education programmes are being set up?

The webinar aims to present examples and experiences of staff training programmes implemented by UNICA libraries to improve librarians' skills and enable them to take on new roles.

 

Format of the webinar

Sharing good practices: 3 to 5 speakers from UNICA member universities presenting experiences of setting up a continuing education and training programme in their library to meet new roles, followed by Q&A and open discussion.
Duration: approx. 90 min.
Period: October (the precise date will be agreed upon together with the speakers taking into account the UNICA calendar).

 

Apply as a speaker! 

UNICA members are invited to share their experiences on the proposed topic in a form of 15-min presentations.
