The SUMIT (SUpporting Mobility through ICT) project aimed at supporting the objective of 3.000.000 Erasmus students by 2011 through the organisation of a seminar on virtual aspects related to mobility in one of the new member states (Poland, University of Warsaw).

The SUMIT partnership envisaged setting up a seminar which highlighted the exchanged of best practices on virtual aspects related to mobility during three stages: before, during and after (mobility). The objective was to show universities in the targeted countries how ICT can be used to enhance the quality of the student and the university experience of exchange, which, eventually, will help to increase numbers (in and out) of Erasmus students.

The seminar was hosted by the University of Warsaw, 11-12 October 2007. The event was addressed to university staff involved in International Relations, Erasmus Coordination, e-Learning, libraries and IT services as well as to student associations.

In the first place, the UNICA member universities in the new member states and candidate countries were targeted. UNICA counts members in Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia.  Invitations were extended to a.o. all Polish universities and senior staff at Education ministries in the targeted countries (new member states and candidate countries). .

The main activitiy consisted in the organisation of the seminar as such. The project outputs can be listed as follows:

  • Dissemination Campaign for the Seminar (flyer, website announcements, etc.)
  • Seminar on Virtual Aspects related to Mobility
  • Book and eBook with Seminar outcome (including recommendations)
  • Evaluation
  • Dissemination of the seminar results (publication with recommendations).
