58 researchers from UNICA member universities awarded ERC Starting Grants

Researchers from UNICA member universities have been awarded highly competitive ERC Starting Grants, supporting early-career scientists in building their own research teams and pursuing cutting-edge projects. In total, 58 grants were secured across UNICA institutions, with projects spanning all three domains:
- Physical Sciences and Engineering (PE): 19 projects
- Life Sciences (LS): 13 projects
- Social Sciences and Humanities (SH): 26 projects
Among UNICA members, the University of Amsterdam stood out with 10 awarded projects.
The projects tackle diverse topics such as urban housing insecurity, cutting-edge quantum technologies, climate change, medieval cultural history, microbiome research, and innovative legal frameworks.
The ERC Starting Grants are awarded to promising early-career scientist, with an experience of 2-7 years since completing the PhD. Starting Grants may be awarded up to €1.5 million for a period of 5 years.
