– President of UNICA is speaking at the closing of the Science|Business Widening Public Conference
UNICA is headed to Skopje, North Macedonia, next October 1st, to participate in the Science|Business Widening Public Conference on Southeast Europe’s role in sustaining and connecting Europe’s research and innovation infrastructures. The Conference is organised by the Widening Group of the Science|Business network, which UNICA recently joined, in partnership with UNICA member Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje (UKIM), ELI ERIC, and the EIT Community RIS Hub in North Macedonia.
The conference titled “The role of Southeast Europe: How to maintain, build, and interconnect research and innovation infrastructures in Europe?” will highlight the opportunities to strengthen the European Research Area and explore how entities, researchers, and innovators can benefit most from the EU’s research framework based on excellence and respect for differences.
The discussions will emphasize the need for mutual access and strategic partnerships between national and European research infrastructures, moving beyond simple funding exchanges. Panels will explore national differences in research and innovation policies across Southeast Europe, highlighting successes and areas for improvement. A key focus will be on tackling the ‘brain drain’ by making the region more attractive to researchers through better facilities, funding, and collaboration opportunities.
Besides representatives from the organising institutions, the programme also includes speakers from the EC’s DG Research and Innovation, Hungary’s National Research, Development and Innovation Office, the COST Association, among others.
UNICA will be represented by our President, Prof. Sorin Costreie, as well as two members from the Secretariat, namely the Secretary-General, Prof. Luciano Saso, and the Office Coordinator, Laura Brossico. The President is also part of the Conference’s programme, and will be speaking during the closing session.
