Leadership & Governance

UNICA organises activities that promote dialogue and peer learning among university leaders, encouraging the exchange of good practices and collaborative approaches to strategic planning, administration & coordination, and decision making in an evolving higher education landscape.

A strong emphasis is placed on collaboration and collective engagement, which underpin the network’s approach to governance and decision-making.

Strong leadership and effective governance are fundamental to universities’ ability to respond to societal, educational, and global challenges. Since the creation of the network in 1990, themes related to the institutional development and university management have been central to UNICA. After all, the network itself is the result of the initiative of university leaders.

Rectors, Vice-Rectors, and other representatives of institutional leadership are frequently consulted on the network’s strategic priorities and overall direction (particularly during the Annual General Assembly), as well as on the development and organisation of specific activities.
