Invitation to Workshop: Scholars at Risk in Belgium, Brussels, 4 July 2017

Representatives of Belgian higher education institutions are invited to a Scholars at Risk (SAR) workshop, to be held in association with the public event ‘Refugees in the art sector & academia’, organised by the Jonge Academie (the young academy of Flanders) together with UAF-Scholars at Risk at the Palace of the Academies in Brussels, 4 July 2017.Content of workshop
During this interactive workshop, participants will have a chance to meet a Syrian scholar in Arabic literature, representatives of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) and Ghent University who are active members of the SAR network, as well as representatives of Scholars at Risk and the Foundation for Refugee Students UAF in the Netherlands. Different ways to get involved in SAR-related activities in Belgium, including hosting threatened scholars, inviting speakers to campus, advocating for imprisoned academics, monitoring attacks on higher education, will be presented.
