UNICA Green & SDGs
UNICA Green & SDGs is the cluster dedicated to supporting universities with the integration of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into institutional strategies and activities. As sustainability has become an integral part of universities’ strategic agendas, the cluster fosters activities that promote the exchange of expertise, peer learning, and collaborative approaches to implementing the SDGs. The scope of the activities of this cluster is often connected to the wider social responsibility of universities, which is a characteristic of contemporary universities and in particular the ones located in capital cities.

The origin of UNICA Green & SDGS dates back to 2011 when, on the initiative of the participants of the UNICA Student Conference 2010 in Rome, a group under the name “UNICA Green Academic Footprint (UGAF)” was created.
Initially, the platform focused primarily on the exchange of knowledge and good practices related to the implementation of environmental sustainability strategies at universities. As the understanding of sustainability evolved in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the scope of the cluster expanded to embrace a more comprehensive approach, encompassing also the social, and governance dimensions, as well as the broader societal role of higher education institutions.
Today, as with the other UNICA clusters, the activities of UNICA Green & SDGs are inherently cross-cutting and closely connected with other areas of the network.
