European University Alliances 2023: 16 UNICA members in 11 alliances set to continue receiving support from Erasmus+
04 July 2023 | European Universities
The European Commission has announced the results of the 2023 call for the European Universities initiative, bringing up the total number of European Universities to 50.
In the 2023 call, 30 alliances have been selected for funding from the EC, 23 of which are existing European Universities that will continue to receive support and seven are completely new alliances. Out of the 23 that will continue receiving support, 11 include at least one UNICA member university.
These numbers mean that UNICA is represented in almost 50% of the existing alliances that will receive further funding and in almost 37% of the overall selected alliances in this call. The 11 European Universities in which UNICA is represented include a total of 15 UNICA member universities, with Circle U. leading with five UNICA universities among its partners.
A total of 50 European Universities now involve more than 430 higher education institutions in 35 countries. These comprise all EU Member States and Iceland, Norway, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Türkiye. With a record overall budget of €402.2 million from the Erasmus+ programme for this call, each alliance receives a budget of up to €14.4 million for four years.
A novelty under the 2023 Erasmus+ call is that higher education institutions from Western Balkans countries, not associated to the Erasmus+ programme, could participate as full partners.
