The UNICA Research Working Group is organising its annual meeting, titled Strengthening Research Collaboration in a Changing Landscape: Shared Research Infrastructures and Research Data Security, hosted by the University of Warsaw, Warsaw, on 25-26 September 2025.

The event will focus on two foundational themes for the future of European research: Research Infrastructures (RIs) and Research Data Management & Security and explore best practices, policy frameworks and strategic directions for RIs and data management & security, providing an opportunity for leaders in academia and experts to learn and reflect on the shape of the European research landscape.

Key discussion points:

  • The role of universities in shaping the European RIs landscape, in articulation with European initiatives like ESFRI, ERIC, CFs.
  • The strategic importance of open science and collaborative governance models in the development of RIs.
  • The challenges of balancing open access with data security, particularly in the context of research collaboration with global partners.
  • Data stewardship: How can universities and research institutions foster a culture of responsible data management and equip researchers with the skills necessary for data sharing and reusing?
