On 24-25 October 2017, UNICA and the University of Cyprus organised a Rectors Seminar: Philanthropy in European Universities: strategies and challenges.

The generosity of individuals and foundations and the support of businesses keen to promote their social responsibility have the potential to provide substantial support for research and teaching activities and to help universities diversify their funding. This seminar offered a unique opportunity to engage in a meaningful discussion about fundraising strategies and challenges in promoting Philanthropy in European Universities.

The Seminar discussed topics such as fundraising, stewardship, promoting a culture of giving, alumni relations, university-community partnerships and ethical dilemmas relating to private donations. Academic and professional experts provided the participants with insights into current trends, shared their recommendations and outlined their vision of the future of university fundraising.

The University of Cyprus provided its own insight on the philanthropic journey that has led to the launching and successful completion of the largest academic library and the first Learning Resource Centre in Cyprus.
