UNICA at Open Days University: "Smart Academic Cities" Workshop, Brussels 9 October

During the 10th European Week of Regions and Cities, UNICA and the European Office of Cyprus held a workshop entitled “Smart Academic Cities: the way to sustainable and inclusive regional growth” under the umbrella of Open Days University 2012 (Workshop code: 09UNIV03).

The workshop focused on the innovative concept of ‘Smart Academic Cities’ where all six dimensions of a ‘Smart City’ are applied: Smart People, Smart Economy, Smart Governance, Smart Mobility, Smart Environments, and Smart Living. A Smart Academic City can function efficiently only when all its actors cooperate together. It offered the floor to different city stakeholders: renowned academics and researchers in the field of urban development, policymakers, businesses, and students. It showcased good practices and offer a lively forum for the exchange of ideas and knowledge on how Smart Academic Cities can foster regional and local economic development.
