2018 European Language Council Forum “The Challenges of Multilingualism for Scientific Practice”, Freie Universtät Berlin, 29-30 November 2018

The 2018 European Language Council Forum “The Challenges of Multilingualism for Scientific Practice” will be held at Freie Universität Berlin on 29-30 November.

The Forum’s objective is to discuss issues pertaining to the challenge of multilingualism in scientific practice, with a particular focus on practices linked to the development of new knowledge. Its aim is to contribute to the development of alternative multilingual solutions based on scientific arguments. The Forum will explore the question of how all languages can contribute to the development of new knowledge in a new type of exchange with the most widespread vehicular languages in terms of conceptual, discursive and cultural enrichment.

The Forum is taking place in the context of the current controversy about the benefits and risks of using a single language (in this case, English as a lingua academica) in the world of Higher Education and Research.

On the European Language Council Forum website will find a preliminary programme of the event and a registration form
