MapAbility: Erasmus Student Network project & final conference on HEIs' accessibility to students with disabilities and special needs, Brussels, 2 June 2014

Since October 2013, Erasmus Student Network (ESN) conducts a project called MapAbility: Mapping the Higher Education Institutions' accessibility for students with disabilities and special needs co-funded by the European Youth Fondation of the Council of Europe. The project is a spin-off of the ExchangeAbility project. UNICA as ESN's partner will support the project's dissemination.

The main activity planned for the project is a European Conference in Brussels, 2 June 2014. which will seek to raise awareness among students about the need to improve the social inclusion of all students in Europe. At the event, socially oriented students and ExchangeAbility coordinators from 36 countries will share best practices and map different European universities according to their architectural barriers and accessibility. Through specific capacity building activities and simulation sessions, the Conference will aim to create a common vision concerning social inclusion of students with disabilities and student mobility.

The conference will take place on the 2 June 2014 from 9.00 am to 5:00 pm in Brussels, Belgium at the building of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC)

Location of the conference venue: Room TRE 7701 - 7th floor, Trèves Building, 74, rue de Trèves, 1040 Brussels

The agenda for the conference is currently under finalisation process and will be available soon.

For any question you may have concerning the conference, please do not hesitate to contact Agnes Sarolta Fazekas via email at ea-partnership@esn.org or the International ExchangeAbility Team via email at exchangeability@esn.org

The ESN is also developing the ExchangeAbility initiative aimed at increasing the participation of students with disabilities in mobility. The initiative includes a questionnaire to gather information on the accessibility of Higher Education Institutions and student services in Europe.

UNICA is pleased to promote the MapAbility project as Coordinator of the 2010-2011 ExchangeAbility project: Fostering Mobility of Students with Disabilities, which was funded in the framework of the Lifelong Learning Programme.
