UNICA welcomes three new Member Universities!

During the 27th UNICA General Assembly, hosted by Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest, 16-17 November 2017, UNICA welcomed three new Member Universities: Carlos III University (Madrid, Spain), Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (Kyiv, Ukraine), and the University of Edinburgh (Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom), which rejoins our Network after 20 years. 

 

With the membership of Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, UNICA will be present in one more European country.

Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (Madrid, Spain)

Established in 1989, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) is one of Spain's youngest and most dynamic universities. Its main fields of studies are Social Sciences & Law, Humanities, and Engineering.

 

UC3M has 20,269 students (more than 10% of them are foreign) and offers:

  • 8 Bachelor’s Degrees in English
  • 16 bilingual Bachelor’s Degrees (English-Spanish)
  • 25 Masters in English
  • 8 bilingual Masters (English-Spanish)

More than half of the degree programmes UC3M offers can be taken fully in English.

 

Universidad Carlos III de Madrid was the first Spanish University to fully implement the Bologna Process in all their programmes and processes.

 

The University is Member of European University Association (EUA), EUA-CDEYERUN (Young European Research Universities Network) and Alianza 4 Universidades A4U (strategic partnership between four leading Spanish public universities: Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM), Carlos III University of Madrid (UC3M) and Pompeu Fabra University (UPF)).

 

University of Edinburgh (Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom)

 

Founded in 1585, the University of Edinburgh is the sixth oldest university in the English-speaking world and one of Scotland's ancient universities. It has 3 colleges and 20 schools and offers programmes to 37,860 undergraduate and postgraduate students (43% of them of foreign nationality) and 4,797 doctoral candidates.

 

The University has bilateral collaboration with more than 300 institutional partners and is actively involved in the EU Higher Education & Research programmes (Erasmus+, Horizon 2020, COST). In 2016, the University was UK's largest beneficiary and top institution in terms of inward and outward bound Erasmus+  mobility.

 

The University of Edinburgh is a member of EUA, the Russel Group, Universitas 21, Coimbra Group, and the League of European Research Universities (LERU). The University of Edinburgh is also one of the 12 founding members of the League.

 

Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (Kyiv, Ukraine)

 

The National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” (KPI) was established in 1898. 

 

It the national context, it is considered a national research university. 

 

Despite its name, KPI covers a vast range of disciplines, ranging from Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics, Medical Engineering, to Humanities, Economics and Management. It has 25 faculties and offers Bachelor, Master and doctoral programmes (including 17 Bachelor programmes and 22 Master programmes in English) to 22,000 students and nearly 500 doctoral candidates

 

The National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” (KPI) is fully Bologna Process compliant and has adopted the ECTS system in 2006. It is a member of the Black Sea Universities Network and the Magna Charta Universitatum.
