FCT FabLab is the new manufacturing laboratory of Faculty of Sciences and Technology at the Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia - FCT), Universidade Nova de Lisboa (NOVA). It opened its doors on 8 October 2016 and was followed by the inauguration on 28 October 2016.
A FabLab is a small custom digital manufacturing workshop where flexible tools are available covering various scales of size and various materials, making it possible to use technological products generally only accessible for mass production. These laboratories of manufacture are also associated with the spirit of sharing knowledge involved in the development of manufacturing projects.
The FCT FabLab space is equipped with several 3D printers, a laser cutter, a vinyl cutter, a router and various electronic equipment. FCT FabLab opening coincided with the week dedicated to Open Access, Open Innovation and Open Science, and received support from the American Embassy through the American Corners programme (Portugal).
